Understanding the Universal Human Values initiative, its philosophy, AICTE mandate, and HKBK College's commitment to holistic education.
Universal Human Values (UHV) is an educational initiative that aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be a complete human being. It goes beyond technical skills to cultivate ethical awareness, emotional intelligence, and a sense of responsibility toward oneself, family, society, and nature.
The UHV framework, developed as part of the AICTE mandate for engineering institutions, is built on the foundation of Right Understanding โ understanding oneself deeply, and then extending that understanding to relationships and the larger world.
"The overall purpose of education is to enable a human being to live a fulfilling life, in harmony with family, society as well as nature."
UHV is structured around understanding at four levels: Self (Individual), Family, Society (including Profession), and Nature/Existence โ each level building upon the previous to create a holistic worldview.
For engineering students, UHV helps develop professional ethics, social responsibility, and the wisdom to apply technical knowledge for the benefit of humanity while maintaining harmony with the environment.
To nurture future engineers who are not only technically competent but also ethically grounded, socially responsible, and capable of contributing to a harmonious, equitable, and sustainable society.
To systematically introduce Universal Human Values into engineering education through workshops, FDPs, expert talks, and outreach programs โ creating graduates who understand themselves and their role in society and nature.
Help students understand themselves as integrated beings โ with feelings, thoughts, desires, and a deeper natural self-acceptance.
Develop understanding of values like trust, respect, and love for building fulfilling relationships in family and community.
Cultivate ethical awareness in engineering practice โ using technology responsibly and for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Inspire students to contribute positively to society through service, outreach, and a genuine concern for human well-being.
Build awareness of our interconnectedness with the natural world and responsibility to live sustainably and in ecological harmony.
Train faculty through AICTE-certified FDPs to effectively teach UHV and model values-based living for students.
HKBK College of Engineering has been officially recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as a Potential Nodal Center for Universal Human Values. This prestigious recognition acknowledges our sustained efforts in implementing the UHV curriculum, conducting FDPs for faculty, and organizing various activities to inculcate universal values among engineering students.
As a Potential Nodal Center, HKBK College of Engineering plays a key role in the AICTE UHV ecosystem โ conducting national-level FDPs, participating in Nodal Centre meetings, and acting as a resource institution for nearby engineering colleges.
Universal Human Values education is structured across four interconnected levels of existence.
Understanding oneself as a combination of the physical body and the 'I' (consciousness). Recognizing needs, emotions, and natural acceptance within oneself.
Understanding values in relationships โ trust, respect, affection, care, guidance โ and how to nurture fulfilling bonds with family members.
Understanding the societal order, justice, equality, and one's professional responsibilities toward colleagues, the institution, and society at large.
Understanding co-existence with nature โ the interconnectedness of all living and non-living systems, and our responsibility to maintain ecological balance.
